Child abuse is more prevalent in our society today.  The world is increasing in evil and wickedness and there seems to be  major sociological ills of family preservation.  The sense of traditional families of a two parent home of heterosexual married partners deems to be declining.  Blended, co-habitation and single parent homes seem to be the norm.  The question of over-reporting and under-reporting seem to be a dual problem in addressing true interventions of child abuse cases.

What about the children?  The children who are too afraid or small in stature to defend themselves gives no validity for abuse of any form.  The children that God has entrusted us as adults to protect, shelter, educate, nurture, feed, clothe, and mentor for the purpose he has set before them.  Children can be protected if concerned adults recognize the danger and report it to the proper authorities.  Some abuse goes un-reported because there is still a lack of comprehension of what abuse to a child without violating parental rights.

The federal government defines child abuse and neglect in the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act as "the physical and mental injury, sexual abuse, negligent, or maltreatment of a child under the age of 18 by a person who is responsible for the child welfare under circumstances which indicate that the child's health or welfare is harmed or threatened" .
