Man murders his spouse and four children; a
man throws his two children off the balcony and then commits
suicide; Scott Peterson murders his wife and unborn child; and a man
is stop for a traffic violation with his beheaded wife's head
in the car. Violence in the family has been an ongoing battle and
international crisis abroad.
Intervention program
and services in the past have focus more on the micro or
individual level than now realizing it is more of a macro or
socialization level. Working in an emergency shelter and meeting the needs
of abused, homeless, prostitutes, raped, incested, molested
and divorced women, has raised my personal dimension towards
the sociological influences of life surrounding them. It goes
deeper than human hands can do but at least there is support,
policies, law, counseling and other helping hands today. I would like
to personal thank Professor Deborah Cosimo, Ma, LPC who open my
eyes from the side of the batterer. She coordinates the
Batterer Intervention Program(BIP) in the Denton County area in
Texas. She teaches Family violence at University of North Texas.
When victims and abusers are helped we work toward a more productive
goal of family preservation.
